Bargus is a small Woolwich narrow boat built for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company fleet in 1935.
She was transferred to British waterways on Nationalization and then to the Anderton Canal Carrying company.
In 1969 she was part converted for use as a pleasure boat by John Pogson in Middlewich. She was then fitted with her Lister HA3 diesel
with 3:1 gearbox much envied by other boaters for it's high torque.
Shortly after this David Tunbridge bought her to live on in London and cruised extensively between 1971 and 1977. He has sent us some of his pictures taken at that time.
In 1977 she had a permanent mooring at Little Venice and was mainly used as a houseboat.
From 1982 to 2016 the same group have owned and run her traveling most of the canals.
Over the years the cabin has been rebuilt, the engine overhauled and the hull re bottomed (this last completed in 2012) but there is always work to do!
NEW 2016 the boat has been sold to enthusiasts Jason, he will deconvert her and use to tow thire butty Betelgeuse which was the original butty paired with Bargus in the GU fleet.
